Adjusting The Invoice
Look real close at contracts and contractors’ manuals. In one or the other, and probably both, you will find something like:
“If your bid is approved and the work completed, you must submit before and after photos. If the photographs submitted do not justify the work performed, we reserve the right to require additional photographs that justify the bid or adjust the invoice based on photographs submitted.”
So, there you have it. Even though you submitted a bid that was approved, did the work and took photos to verify the work, they reserve the right to adjust the invoice. Some contractors have stated that these thefts took place two or three years after the actual work was performed. In that case, the “adjustment” was taken from a current job’s invoice!
