Punitive Actions

I have never talked with a property preservation contractor that could remember ever receiving payment for evaluating or correcting the work of another contractor. Never!

However, most companies state:

“If, for any reason, another contractor or inspector is sent to a property to evaluate a problem due to your error, you will be charged a $35.00 processing fee. This fee covers the cost for us to create, process, and resolve the work order issue.”

Since there is no direct correlation between receipt of these fees by one contractor and the taking of the fee from another, one must assume this fee is intended to punish the contractor. In other words, it is a punitive action taken as punishment against contractors.
