Property Preservation Office Hours
There is absolutely no norm for office hours in the property preservation business.
Some contractors do not even have an office. Their pickup truck serves the dual purpose of transportation and office. Cell phones are commonly used as the office number.
Many property preservation businesses are family run and one spouse may run the office while the other is in the field. This no longer means the wife is in the office and the husband is in the field. There are almost as many women in the field as men and a large percentage of property preservation businesses have male staffs in the office.
Many property preservation businesses have small staffs and set office hours regardless of the need to do otherwise. This is a good route to pursue if you are interested in preserving your sanity.
Some property preservation businesses are so busy they may have two office staffs covering a 16 hour work day. During daylight hours the office staff handles routine office type of work. The evening staff is usually responsible for uploading of work orders and pictures and preparing work orders for tomorrow’s crews.
Quite a few property preservation businesses are 24 hour operations with the 3rd shift performing anything from invoicing to equipment maintenance. Some busy areas of the country have property preservation companies with night shifts working thru the night using portable lighting equipment. There can be problems with this if care is not taken to not disturb the neighbors.
So, what should your office hours be? I suggest you set hours that are realistic and make you happy but be ready to adjust those hours as needed to accomplish your objectives.
